FROZEN IMAGE OF CHANGE
A crafted artwork in the context of a table top.
The steel construction supporting the tabletop is designed like an easel holding a canvas. Sanded pattern in steel and polished lacquer on top creates a piece with dimensional depth. Light reflects beautifully organic in the steel creating a vivid essence of light and shade
Looking at her nails Nathalie Adenling saw the faded, worn-down polish. The colour, once a complete monochrome, now a ragged edged island. The gradual fading and ageing of nail polish and, well, all things isn’t always something to regret. An aesthetic that allows for the irregularities of living things is beautiful. The table is the result of letting the gradual changes in the fading colour of nails guide the appearance of the tabletop. From repeatedly sanding and polishing the surface the layers formed a multidimensional collage of the layers.
The Idea was to capture a frozen image of change by creating a artwork that is entirely created by a visually worn aesthetic. Regardless of time and gradual fading the irregular core structure of the artwork remains. A piece that is blending the contrast of change yet remaining unchanged. The aesthetic gets organic and eternal.
